Sources from Zike and Kimkpa in the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State has reported a fresh killing of atleast 49 people. The attacks also had many injured, mainly people within the Iregwe Chieftaincy. 

Those injured were rushed to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos University Teaching Hospital and other nearby hospitals.

The spokes person for Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Samuel Jugo confirmed Sundays night attack, and narrated the attacks started around 8pm on Sunday which is  April 13, 2025. According to eyewitness sporadic gunshots were heard from multiple locations and by Monday morning, 49 corpses was recovered. This number excludes the number of persons injured which has not been ascertained at the moment.

The Government of the State condemned the killing in the State by Gunmen in Bassa Community, calling it unprovoked. The commissioner of Information and Communication Hon Joyce Ramnap, who spoke to Daily Trust on the phone said, “the attack is one too many and these series of attacks pose an existential threat to the lives and livelihoods of the peace-loving people of the state.”

“It is sad that in less than two weeks after our people were k!lled in Bokkos local government, this sad incident is reoccurring in another community in Bassa local government,” she added.

She also said the attacks is a means to disrupt the peace that is gradually returned to the state, calling on people to remain peaceful as government worked with security agencies to arrest the situation.
