It was tragedy Yesterday in Enugu as Petrol tanker carrying fuel lost control and overturned on the hilly road at ugwu onyeama along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway at about 11.30am on Saturday, January 25. The first one occurred in a filling station at Ibagwa Nike.
An eye-witness reported that the spilled fuel ignited and many motorist were engulfed in the inferno. At the moment, at least fifteen persons were recorded to be burnt to de@th including three children in the inferno.
The incident was very devastatinging as described and from available pictures, saying that the ensuing fire also gutted another truck behind it, leading to the escalation of the fire.
The victims were burnt beyond recognition, the victims are mostly motorist that were caught in the inferno. The eye-witness also reported that some of the victims were attempting to run away from the scene when they were caught by the fire.
Residents and passersby worked with emergency teams to evacuate the injured to the hospitals and transport the deceased to morgues. On the floor was the remains of persons burnt to ashes by the fire.
The Enugu State governor Barr. Peter Mbah visited the scene later with some officials, he expressed sadness over the incident. The Governor said, we have already swing into action to ensure that every victims received full medical attention and while also taking steps to forestall future occurencies, including enforcement of road rules and fixing the part of the federal road that was in disrepair
