Want to know how one of the world's richest people starts his day? Surprisingly, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos begins his mornings much like many of us - just taking it easy.
During an interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Bezos revealed his morning ritual called "puttering time." This isn't some complex productivity hack or intense workout routine. Instead, it's simply dedicated time to wander around and ease into the day.
What exactly does Bezos do during his puttering time? He:
- Grabs his morning coffee
- Reads the news on his phone
- Browses through newspapers
- Chats with his partner, Lauren Sánchez
- Moves at a deliberately slow pace for the first few hours
"I'm not as productive as you might think I am," Bezos admitted during the interview. "I do believe in wandering."
Along with his relaxed morning routine, Bezos emphasizes the importance of quality sleep. In his 2020 book, he shared that he maintains an early-to-bed, early-to-rise schedule and aims for eight hours of sleep to stay proactive and maintain his overall well-being.
While following these habits won't guarantee Amazon-level success (after all, Bezos's net worth exceeds $200 billion), it's interesting to note that even one of the world's most successful business leaders values a calm, unhurried start to his day.
