A prominent Anglican church leader has reportedly been taken from his parish in Anambra State, raising concerns in the local community. Venerable David Arinze Ajaefobi, who serves both as the Archdeacon of Oyi Central Archdeaconry and leads St James' Parish in Awkuzu, disappeared Saturday evening.
According to local sources, the incident occurred around 9:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Witnesses say unknown individuals took the priest near the entrance of his church in Awkuzu, located within the Oyi Local Government Area.
So far, the situation remains unclear as:
- No one has contacted the priest's family
- No ransom demands have been made
- The kidnappers haven't stated their motives
In response to the incident, the church has organized prayer sessions hoping for Venerable Ajaefobi's safe return. However, when contacted about the situation, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, stated that no official report had been filed about the incident.
The local community awaits further developments as both church members and authorities work to understand the situation.
