The Enugu State Government has announced the approval of relocating Agu-Owa and Ugbo-Lawrence slums in Enugu metropolis as part of its urban renewal initiative.Â
The move aims to transform these areas into modern residential spaces. To facilitate this, the Government approved the development of relocation sites at Akpuoga Nike Estate to resettle the occupants of the slums, ensuring each relocated family receives a two-bedroom flat along with a Certificate-of-Occupancy.
During a State Executive Council (Exco) meeting led by Governor Peter Mbah, the decision was revealed.Â
Engr. Gerald Otiji, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, emphasized that the urban renewal project has identified 25 slums in Enugu metropolis, with Agu-Owa and Ugbo-Lawrence chosen for the pilot scheme.
The new relocation sites at Akpuoga Nike will feature paved roads, electricity, two-bedroom apartments, sports facilities, and a Smart School.Â
This project ensures security and comprehensive amenities for the relocated families. The government encourages residents to cooperate to fully benefit from this well-planned initiative.
