A terrible accident occurred on the Zaria-Kano road in Kano State, Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of five police officers. The incident happened early on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, when the vehicle carrying the officers collided head-on with a trailer.
The officers were returning from Edo State, where they had been on duty for the recent governorship election. Sadly, not all of them made it back home.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, speaking for the Kano State Police, confirmed that the crash took place near Karfi village in Kura Local Government area. Along with the five who lost their lives, eleven other officers were hurt and are now being treated at Murtala Mohammad Specialist Hospital.
The officers who died were all from the Bichi Division. Their names were:
- Inspector Hashimu Garba
- Inspector Usman Salihu
- Sergeant Sa'idu Salisu
- Corporal Kamalu Shehu
- Corporal Abubakar Nuhu
This sad event reminds us of the risks that police officers face, not just in their daily duties, but also in traveling to and from their assignments. It's a stark reminder of the sacrifices these brave men and women make to keep our communities safe.
