Brazilian Courts Uphold Robinho’s Conviction for 9 years

Former Brazilian football star Robinho has been at the center of a high-profile legal battle stemming from a 2013 incident. 

He was Convicted in 2017 by an Italian court for his role in the gang rape of a 23-year-old Albanian woman at a Milan nightclub, Robinho’s nine-year prison sentence was upheld by Italy’s Supreme Court in 2022.

In recent developments, Brazilian courts have agreed to Italy’s request for Robinho to serve his sentence in Brazil, as the country does not extradite its nationals. 

Following a ruling from Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice that validated the Italian conviction.

Robinho began serving his sentence in March 2024. As of now, he has served approximately six months

Robinho has consistently denied the allegations, maintaining that the sexual encounter was consensual and alleging racial bias in the Italian justice system.
