Students Protest New Immigration Policies in Canada

As Canada faces a significant immigration overhaul, around 70,000 international students have protested against new policies introduced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government.

Demonstrations occurred nationwide, including in Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia.

Key changes include the abolition of the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) in 2021 and a two-year cap on international student visas, leading to fears of deportation for many graduates.

The government anticipates a 35% reduction in foreign student intake, exacerbating housing and employment pressures.

Student advocacy groups warn that many could face deportation as work permits expire, with calls for extensions and clearer pathways to permanent residency
