NNPCL Blames Distribution as cause of fuel price hike

The ongoing petrol shortage that began over few weeks ago in Lagos and Abuja has now extended to various regions across Nigeria, with prices soaring to over N1000 in some areas.

Numerous petrol stations nationwide remain closed, citing a lack of fuel to sell. This scarcity has significantly disrupted both commercial and social activities.

While the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) attributed the shortages to "distribution" issues, it has not clarified the reasons behind the recent price surge, which has persisted in Abuja and surrounding areas for more than four weeks.

In response to the situation, black market vendors are thriving, selling a 10-liter jerrycan of petrol for as much as N12,000. Meanwhile, private fuel stations that do have petrol are charging between N750 and N1050, depending on their location.
