Nigeria Sets Final Deadline for SIM-NIN Linkage Compliance

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has set September 14, 2024, as the final deadline for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to link Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to National Identity Numbers (NINs).

This directive aims to enhance compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage policy, which has seen over 153 million SIMs linked, achieving a compliance rate of 96%, up from 69.7% earlier this year.

The NCC emphasizes that complete linkage is crucial for boosting trust in Nigeria's digital economy, reducing fraud, and promoting financial inclusion.

Effective September 15, 2024, no SIM will operate in Nigeria without a valid NIN. The NCC urges Nigerians to finalize their linkage, warning that selling pre-registered SIMs is illegal and punishable by law.
