Navy Destroys Massive Illegal Refinery in Rivers State

The Nigeria Navy lunched a crackdown against illegal oil refinery site in Ogoloma River State. The crackdown lead to the destruction of massive crude oil refining site.

The operation was carried out by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, it involved the demolition of over 500 crude oil cooking drums using a swamp buggy, following the directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, to eradicate oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta.

The illegal refinery is capable of producing more than two million litres of Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO) daily, had a pipeline connected to a nearby oil wellhead operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

Suspected oil thieves used this pipeline to siphon crude oil for their illicit refining operations.

NNS Pathfinder Commander revealed that the oil thieves had adopted a tactic of using drums to refine stolen crude oil into AGO and other by-products.

Hello said this method provided them with a strategic advantage due to the ease of constructing and dismantling the drums.

The ongoing operation has so far destroyed over 500 drums, numerous dug-out pits, and ovens capable of producing more than two million litres of illegally refined petroleum products daily.

The discovery and destruction of this massive illegal refinery mark a significant victory in the fight against economic sabotage and environmental degradation in the Niger Delta region.

The Navy's efforts demonstrate its determination to enforce the law and safeguard the country's resources for the benefit of all Nigerians.
