Enugu's Art Competition Highlights Transition from Sit-at-Home

The Enugu State Government recently organized a Visual Art competition aimed at ending the illegal sit-at-home orders that have hindered socio-economic activities in the state and the broader South East region.

This initiative also sought to illustrate the shift from the disruptive Mondays to a more productive environment.

The competition, held on Sunday in Enugu, concluded with joint winners Nwachukwu Sunday and Ukeje Olubebe, who each received cash prizes and commendation letters, while Nkiruka Ogbonna was recognized as the runner-up.

According to Great Okeke, Special Assistant to Governor Peter Mbah on Visual Communications, the competition provided an opportunity for the youth to share their experiences during the sit-at-home period.

Governor Mbah had previously declared an end to the sit-at-home, which had severely affected students, causing them to miss 52 school days annually. Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, expressed satisfaction with the revival of entrepreneurship and productivity in Enugu, emphasizing the need to move past the negative impacts of the sit-at-home.

The winners shared their motivations, highlighting the frustrations they faced during the sit-at-home. Ozoemena noted that the theme "The Echoes of Sit-at-Home" inspired him to express his thoughts, while Ukeje described her artwork as a journey from fear during the sit-at-home to the joy of returning to normalcy under the current administration, which has improved security and encouraged business activities.

  2. The sit at home had never truly served any reasonable purpose to advance the course of an Igbo man.
It was a shameful thing that was forced on the people which in it self was never a solution to the plight of an average igbo man
