The Enugu State Government has initiated pension payments for local government retirees while revealing 2,640 ghost and deceased pensioners on its payroll.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, announced that over 7,000 pensioners have received payments, following the governor's commitment to address outstanding pensions and gratuities.
In July alone, payments reached nearly half a billion naira for 7,109 verified pensioners, including 989 new retirees.
The administration is enhancing transparency in the pension system to combat fraud and ensure all arrears are cleared promptly
