Emir's Daughter Zainab Bayero Seeks Help from Kano Governor

Zainab Bayero, the daughter of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, has contacted Governor Abba Yusuf for assistance, requesting housing and financial support for her family. The request comes nearly a decade after the passing of her father, who was the longest-serving emir in Kano's history.

In an interview with Premium Times, Zainab opened up about the difficulties her family has been facing since her father died in 2014. She, along with her mother and brother, have been struggling to make ends meet and urgently need support.

Zainab explained that being born into a polygamous home has led to intrigues and divisions within the family. She stated that they were not given a share of her father's estate, leaving them in a terrible situation that has persisted for ten years.

Governor's Intervention

In June 2024, Zainab reached out to Governor Yusuf through a publication, seeking help when her family was staying at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. The governor promptly sent someone to settle their hotel bills and inquired about their needs.

Zainab requested a home, for her brother to return to school and assistance in finding employment. The governor provided some financial support, but Zainab stated that renting a house for a year in Lagos was insufficient. As a result, they have found themselves in the same predicament again, with their hotel booking expiring on August 23 and no place to stay.

Plea for Further Assistance

Zainab acknowledged that Governor Yusuf had assisted them in June but emphasized that it was not enough to address their ongoing struggles. She appealed to the governor for additional support, particularly in securing a house in Lagos, as they believe it would be safer and provide more freedom to live their lives as they desire.
