The sad news of Lady Cathy Ferguson’s death has been confirmed by the family of Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former manager of Manchester United. Lady Cathy, who was 84 years old, was married to Sir Alex for 57 years and had three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lady Cathy and Sir Alex met in 1964 when they both worked at a typewriter factory. They tied the knot in 1966 at Glasgow’s registrar office.

Lady Cathy was a loyal and supportive partner to Sir Alex throughout his illustrious career in football. She was his “bedrock” of stability and encouragement, as he said when he retired from Manchester United in 2013 after 27 years at the helm. He also admitted that she was the only person in the world who he did not argue with.

Lady Cathy once joked that she thought Sir Alex was a “thug” when she first saw him with a plaster on his face from a football injury. She also revealed that she went to work while he went to his football after their wedding.

The Ferguson family has asked for privacy at this difficult time. Manchester United has expressed its deepest sympathy to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family. Lady Cathy was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who stood by Sir Alex’s side throughout his life.
