Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan says Salaries of workers not on IPPIS will be stopped

Salaries

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it will stop paying the salaries of public workers whose records cannot be verified on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) starting from Friday, Oct. 27. This was signed by Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan

The IPPIS is a centralized platform designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the payment of salaries and wages for civil servants. However, it has come under scrutiny in recent years due to reports of irregularities, including the presence of fake or non-existent employees on the system.

To address these concerns, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation mandated a comprehensive verification process for all government employees to authenticate their eligibility to receive salaries. Civil servants were required to provide their biometric data along with relevant identification documents.

However, a significant number of civil servants have failed to comply with the verification requirements despite repeated reminders and extensions. The verification exercise has been ongoing since 2017, and the government has committed substantial financial and human resources over a period of seven years to verify the records of all Civil Servants on the IPPIS platform.

The ongoing exercise is scheduled to end on Friday, October 27, 2023, and any officer whose record could not be verified will be delisted from the payroll of the government.
