Suspected bandits launched an attack on worshippers at a Mosque in Saya-Saya village, located in the Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna state on Friday, September 1, resulting in the feared death of seven Muslims.

Reports indicate that the worshippers were in the midst of their Isha’i (Sunset) prayers when the armed assailants stormed the mosque. Tragically, five of the victims met their demise within the confines of the mosque, while two others lost their lives at different locations within the vicinity.

Malam Abdulrahman Yusuf, the village Head, confirmed the incident, revealing that among the victims was the head of the local vigilante group, who was targeted and killed within the mosque premises. He recounted, "We suspect they had tracked down the vigilante boss to the mosque, intending to harm him. As we were engaged in prayer inside the mosque, they suddenly arrived and opened fire. Five individuals lost their lives within the mosque, while another victim, a driver delivering food supplies to the village, was also fatally attacked. The remaining victim was killed in a neighboring village."

Security forces, including soldiers and police officers from Ikara town and Palgore area, arrived at the scene approximately around 12:30 a.m. Unfortunately, the attackers had already fled the village by that time.

Mansir Alhassan, the acting Public Relations Officer of the state police command, verified the incident and disclosed that security personnel had been mobilized to search the nearby forests to apprehend the perpetrators. He further noted that the police and other security agencies were not alerted to the attack until after the assailants had departed from the area.
