Passengers Escape from Burning Bus in Lagos at CMD Road

Lagos

A terrifying incident occurred on Sunday, September 3, when a commercial bus caught fire at CMD Road, near the Seven Up bus stop in Lagos state. The passengers on board the bus had to scamper for safety and jump out of the windows to avoid being burnt by the flames.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from under the bus and quickly spread to the rest of the vehicle. The driver of the bus was alerted by other road users that there was a fire under his bus, and he stopped the bus and tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. However, his efforts were in vain, as the fire was too strong and engulfed the whole bus.

The passengers, who were mostly traders and workers, panicked and tried to get out of the bus as fast as they could. Some of them jumped through the windows, while others used the doors. Some of them sustained injuries from the glass shards and the heat of the fire. They also lost their belongings and goods in the fire.

A video of the incident was shared online by a social media user, who captured the scene of the burning bus and the passengers escaping from it. The video showed smoke billowing from the bus and people running away from it. The video also showed some people trying to help the passengers and put out the fire with buckets of water.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but some people speculated that it might have been caused by a faulty electrical system or a fuel leakage. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire Service were said to have arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. They also attended to the injured passengers and took them to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The incident caused traffic congestion on CMD Road, as many vehicles had to divert to other routes to avoid the burning bus. The bus was later towed away by LASEMA officials. The driver of the bus was said to have been arrested by the police for interrogation.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of commercial buses in Lagos state, as many of them are old and poorly maintained. Some people have called on the government to regulate and inspect the buses regularly and ensure that they are fit for transportation. They have also urged the drivers and passengers to be vigilant and report any signs of malfunction or danger in their vehicles.
