Operation Delta Safe Destroys Seven Illegal Oil Refineries in Rivers State

Operation Delta Safe

Seven operating illegal oil refineries were destroyed in airstrikes by Operation Delta Safe's air component in the Rivers State local governments of Cawthorne Channel and Bille.

 Additionally, during the operations, storage tanks, reservoirs, and Cotonou boats thought to be siphoning crude oil from a flow station were destroyed.

This information was included in a statement that the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, provided to defense correspondents in Abuja.

The Statement said;

The airstrikes on Cawthorne Channel and Bille, both in Rivers State's Degema Local Government Area, were effective in identifying and destroying 7 illicit refining facilities.

On September 15, 2023, four active illicit refineries with surface storage tanks and dug-out reservoirs that may have contained illegally refined items were spotted in Cawthorne Channel. The sites were later demolished.

Similar airstrikes were also carried out at Bille on September 16, 2023, and early on September 17, 2023. Three illicit oil refineries with reservoirs and storage tanks were demolished there. One of the locations saw the destruction of a Cotonou boat believed to be siphoning crude oil from a flow station.

"Cawthorne Channel and Bille have been responsible for the majority of oil theft and illegal oil refining activities in Rivers State during the past two months. The Land, Maritime, and Air Components of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed over 30 illicit oil refinery installations in these 2 areas during this time.
