How Two Nigerians Reacted to the Election Tribunal Ruling

Election Tribunal

The election tribunal ruling that upheld the victory of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sparked outrage among some Nigerians who supported the opposition candidates.

Two Nigerian men expressed their anger and frustration in videos that went viral on social media. One of them, who claimed to be a lawyer, set his wig on fire, saying he had lost faith in the judicial system. The other man burned a copy of the Nigerian constitution, calling it a “useless” document that does not protect the rights of the people.

The election tribunal dismissed the petitions filed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Power, who challenged the outcome of the February 2023 presidential election. The tribunal said they failed to prove their allegations of electoral malpractice, corruption and violence against President Tinubu and his party.

The ruling has been met with mixed reactions from Nigerians, some of whom praised the tribunal for upholding the rule of law, while others accused it of being biased and compromised. The opposition parties have vowed to appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court.
