How the Court Ruled to Clear Tinubu From Money Laundering Allegations

The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had accused President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being involved in money laundering activities in the United States. They claimed that Tinubu was convicted of this crime and that he was unfit to hold the office of the president. However, the Presidential Election Petitions Court dismissed their allegations and ruled in favour of Tinubu.

The court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, said that the petitioners failed to prove their case with credible evidence. The court stated that there was no record of criminal arrest and conviction against Tinubu by any competent authority in the United States. The court also noted that the petitioners relied on hearsay and internet sources that were not verified or authenticated.

The court therefore ruled and cleared Tinubu of the conviction allegation.  The court also awarded costs of N10 million against the petitioners for wasting the time of the court and the respondents.
