MHD, a French rapper aged 29, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for murder.

In 2018, a court in Paris held the rapper, whose actual name is Mohamed Sylla, responsible for the gang-related murder of Loic K in the city.

The victim was reportedly attacked and stabbed by a gang of up to 12 people after being pushed down by MHD's Mercedes-Benz. MHD has pleaded "not guilty" to the accusation. Three of his co-defendants were found not guilty, while five of them were.

According to the AFP news agency, MHD told the court, "From the beginning, I have maintained my innocence in this case and I will continue to maintain my innocence." He asserted that the allegations against him were unfounded and that he wasn't there at the crime scene. A local resident's video taken through the window of his home, when MHD was recognized by other witnesses, was used as part of the prosecution's case against him.

Several witnesses recognized MHD based on his hairstyle or a hoodie made by Puma, a company for whom he served as a brand ambassador, according to Agence France-Presse's investigation reports. A day after the murder, the burned-out, abandoned automobile was discovered in a parking lot.

MHD established afro-trap, a fusion of hip-hop and African customs, and gained notoriety after becoming viral in 2015. The 29-year-old was jailed after being accused of murder in January 2019. After spending a year and a half in custody while the inquiry was ongoing, he was freed and later put out a new record.

Several of the women in the public gallery started crying as the decision was announced. MHD hugged one of them while remaining calm. The performer, who loves football and was raised by Guinean and Senegalese parents in France, is most known for the song Afro Trap Part 3 (Champions League), which is dedicated to the Paris Saint-Germain soccer team.

He had gained notoriety abroad and gained the admiration of international celebrities like Drake and Madonna.
