Lucy Edwards, 27, was born with a rare skin condition called incontentia pigmenti that caused her to lose her sight gradually from the age of 11. She met her partner, Ollie Cave, when she still had some vision left, but became completely blind in 2015. They got engaged in June 2018 and planned to marry on August 31, 2023.

Lucy, a content creator and broadcaster from Birmingham, West Midlands, wanted her wedding to be a sensory experience for herself and her guests. She chose to have the ceremony at Kew Gardens, where she rented three conservatories for £12,000. She also arranged for audio signs, Braille place cards, and sensory food.

The most special moment of the wedding was when Lucy asked all her guests to wear blindfolds as she walked down the aisle to the music of “Arrival of the Birds” from the movie “Theory of Everything”. She said it was a way for them to understand the “bittersweetness” of her life and to share her emotions.

Ollie said he was very moved by the blindfolded moment and that it was a unique way to connect with Lucy. He said they wanted to create a common experience for themselves and their loved ones. He said everyone briefly entered Lucy’s world at that time.
