19 People Abducted by Gunmen in Abuja, Including a Catholic Seminarian

A shocking incident of mass kidnapping has occurred in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. According to reports, 19 people were taken hostage by armed men on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

One of the victims is Rev Ezekiel Nuhu, a young seminarian of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja. His fate and that of the other captives are unknown at the moment.

The Kwali Area Council chairman, Danladi Chiya, revealed this information at a meeting with the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, and the six Area Council Chairmen. He pleaded for their assistance to address the security challenges facing the local governments.

He said: “We have a major challenge of insecurity across the six Area Councils. Just today (Thursday), about 19 people were kidnapped in the Bwari Area Council. I just received about five in my council who were in captivity for about six days.”

The FCT minister expressed his shock and concern over the incident and promised to contact the FCT Director of State Security Services and the Commissioner of Police to get more details and facilitate rescue operations.
