A tragic accident occurred in Edo State, Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area, on Monday evening, September 25, 2023. A trailer coming from Lokoja-Okene route crashed into a Toyota bus with passengers on board. The accident claimed the lives of 15 people and injured several others.
A witness said the trailer’s brakes failed and it rammed into the bus. The injured were taken to the hospital and the dead were taken to the mortuary.
The Etsako East Local Chairman, Hon. Benedicta Attoh, sent her condolences to the Okpella community and the families of the victims. She also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.
In a statement by her chief press secretary, Ben Atu, she said: "I am deeply saddened by the loss of our brothers and sisters in a terrible motor accident along the Ewo Market Road in Okpella. I sympathize with their families and assure them of our prayers and support in this difficult time. No one can question God’s will when such things happen, but we can only pray for His mercy and grace.
I commiserate with the families of the deceased on behalf of Etsako East Local Government Council. I pray that such tragedy will never happen again in Jesus name, Amen. I pray that God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Amen."
