Amid Coup in Africa 12 Generals, 1013 other Military officers retired in Rwanda

Rwanda's President and Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Paul Kagame, has approved the retirement of 95 military generals, senior officers, and 930 junior soldiers.

Notably, General James Kabarebe, the former Minister of Defence and Chief of Defense Staff, is among those retiring.

This decision was communicated through an official statement on the Rwanda Defense Force's website.

The retirements come amidst recent military coups in Niger Republic and Gabon. Some of those retired reached the age of 65, while others were implicated in misconduct.

President Kagame emphasized the importance of unity for the country's progress. The development prompted discussions on X (formerly Twitter), with some suggesting it was a coup prevention measure and others appreciating the long service of the soldiers.
